East Algarve

The East Algarve is the area from Faro to the Spanish border. Characteristic for the area are the extensive long and wide sandy beaches with typical fishing villages like Fuseta and Santa Luzia. Other nice towns which are worth a visit are Olhão, Vila Real de Santo António and the beautiful town of Tavira. You can also reach these towns by train. The countryside behind consists of a hilly, sloping landscape with picturesque small villages.
The mass tourism has, in contrary with the West Algarve, not yet reached the East Algarve and the atmosphere is typically Portuguese. Besides a beach holiday for the sun worshippers, there are many possibilities for the more active tourists, like biking, walking, water sports or playing golf at one of the excellent golf courses nearby.
