Yearly a lot of tourists visit the Algarve of which most of them directly go from the airport to the West Algarve, a very touristic area. The east is still relatively quiet and tourism does not yet predominate. This mainly thanks to the protected natural park Ria Formosa. Because of this park the natural character of the East Algarve remains preserved. Thanks to these two different areas, you can benefit everything the Algarve has to offer. In the east you can enjoy the peace and quiet area where you can walk, bike and taste the real Portuguese atmosphere. In the west you can visit the water parks, Mundokarting, Zoomarine and the shopping centres. The roads are very well, just as the bus- and train network so you can arrive at your destination easily.

You can play golf in the east as well as in the west. The courts west of Faro are probably better known but there are also a number of beautiful quality courts in the east.

Besides all the active possibilities there are a number of nice towns and villages which are worth a visit, like Faro, Tavira, Silves, Alte, Lagos and Loulé. Not as well-known but also very interesting to visit are Olhão, Alcoutim, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António.

Although most tourists come for the sun, sea and the beaches, the Algarve has definitely much more to offer. Especially spring and fall are the best times for the active tourist.
